Hackney singer-songwriter Albert Gold crafts music heavy with soul-tinged emotion. Latest track, sweet pob/RnB combo ‘Oxygen’, comes from his EP of the same name and is the first of three collections slated for release this year. Make sure to listen below:

We got to know Albert a little better ahead of his gig at the Sebright Arms this weekend.

If I had to describe my music in 3 words…
I’d use ‘sad’, ‘happy’ and ‘soul’.

My favourite film ever is…
The Color Purple. I used to watch it all the time when I was younger on Sunday night with my family.

The most famous person I’ve met is…
Kirk Franklin. It was actually when I was younger when I was in a choir but it happened so fast!

The best venue I’ve played so far is…
Birthdays in Dalston. Just loved the vibe and the sound was really cool.

The song I can’t listen to is…
Stevie Wonder’s ‘Happy Birthday’ haha – I’ve heard it too many times at birthdays.

The worst job I’ve ever had is…
I think it’s a retail job I’d been doing for a while, the hours were hell.

Favourite meal to cook is…
Rice and chicken…it’s kinda all I can make.

If I was in a tribute band it would be…
Luther Vandross, I think – singing ‘Never Too Much’ with the ‘80s clothes would be a dream of mine.

My favourite word is…
Bitch, haha.

If I had a superpower I’d want it to be…
To be able to fly. Then I would never be late to anything.

If I could play a gig anywhere it would be…
I have always wanted to play the O2. Never done it but it looks like fun.

I think you should listen to…
Blood Orange – ‘Freetown Sound’, its one of my fave albums since last year.

If I could see anyone play live it would be…
Beyonce – I saw her once at Glastonbury but I would love to hear her playing stripped back at a smaller venue.

Albert Gold plays the Sebright Arms on 10th June.
