With their warped, intricate electronica, 0171 offer a disorienting, heady euphoria. Last Friday they released their latest single ‘Follow’ taking their balance of exuberant pop and eerie intensity to new heights. We caught up with the Hackney duo to talk Sevdaliza, Love of Huns and playing at house parties.

An electrifying track that exudes a certain brooding Lynchian surrealism, ‘Follow’ sees 0171 draw on classic 90s pop and its relentless positivity: “songs like ‘Sex On The Beach’ or Vengaboys’ ‘We Like To Party’ come to mind” they explain, “but we wanted to push those pop fantasies until they became sinister”. And this is an immersive atmosphere they craft with thick layers of warped electronica and soaring, resplendent melodies alongside uncanny, chaotic percussion and ethereal, carnal vocals.

Comprised of Joe Bedell-Brill and Georgie Hoare, ‘Follow’ is the latest single from their upcoming second EP Change Nothing, due this August. With this latest instalment of their alluring and otherworldly experimental-pop, 0171 lure us further into their hypnotic and escapist pop fantasy, and it’s a glorious sonic trip.
