Punkt – the kickass Norwegian experimental live remix festival coming to Rich Mix next month – has unveiled that experimental Warp Records sound artist Mira Calix will be performing.

She joins acclaimed math rockers Three Trapped Tigers and legendary trumpeter Arve Henriksen for the festival’s special one-night Shoreditch stand on Saturday, February 11th.

For more than 10 years, musicians Erik Honoré and Jan Bang have been twisting the musical landscape of Kristiansand, Norway with their radical festival concept, Punkt Festivalen. It consists of live performances from heavyweight artists – which are then taken and reconstructed into a multitude of ‘remixes’ as audiences are invited to move between rooms to absorb the different interpretations.

Sound fun? So far, the Punkt parties have attracted serious names, such as Laurie Anderson, Brian Eno, John Paul Jones and David Sylvian. With Eno paying tribute to the festival by saying: “Punkt is the kind of festival that I dreamt of before it existed. That’s why I like it. To connect things is culturally more interesting than to separate them.”

Here’s how it will go down: the main space at Rich Mix will be lit up by live performances from the swirling Yes-like precision noise rockers Three Trapped Tigers – who will be performing a completely improvised set – and mind-blowing trumpeter and ECM Records artist Arve Henriksen.

Afterwards, the audience will be invited upstairs to check out two rooms of interpretations of the show, where live sampling and live electronics are mixed with visuals to create a thrilling sonic and visual sensation. The event will be hosted BBC Radio 3 presenter Fiona Talkington.

Rich Mix is a charity and social enterprise offering live music, film, dance, theatre, comedy, spoken word and a range of creative activities for people of all ages and all cultures. The building houses five floors with three cinema screens showing mainstream and independent films, three performance spaces, as well as two gallery spaces.
