You’ll find Melt Festival at a former cole mine in an industrial area full of cranes just outside of Berlin, a dystopian back-drop for a truly vibrant festival. Affectionally referred to as the Godfather of German festivals this year they’re going huge as they celebrate their 20th anniversary. Launched in 1997 by the owners of legendary Berlin record shop Melting Point it’s become an influential and exciting place to see a huge variety of bands, but of course, always with electronic music at its core.
To give yourselves a taste of what’s in store, they’ve put together the playlist below, and told us the following:
Melt never took place directly in Berlin but even before it moved to the iconic venue Ferropolis next to Bauhaus-City Dessau it always had a strong Berlin feel to it. 24 hours freedom. Since it started, electronic music influencers from Ben Klock, Ellen Allien or Modeselektor are still pretty much present every year. From 2004 we consequently started to mix up all sorts of genres and opened the festival to people who have a good taste in music, not just for electronic music, but our heartbeat always was electronic and always will be. Guests from the past included icons from Oasis, Björk, Aphex Twin, Massive Attack or Pet Shop Boys, looking forward to the next 20 years.
