We take a look at five super great festival announcements from outside the UK, pack your bags and book your tickets…
Festival announcement season is in full force right now. Our diaries are littered with “BESTIVAL???” type notes scribbled in pencil as it quickly becomes clear this is an every weekend commitment/financial predicament. The prospect of fun in the sun is overwhelming when it’s so cold outside and all we want to do is dance around in fields to our favourite music.
Last week we listed some of our favourite recent U.K. announcements. This week we’re looking further afield, so here’s to booking some flights and counting down the days to the dance.
Barcelona, Wednesday 30th May – Sunday 3rd June
We’re used to Primavera knocking it out the park year in, year out with their programming. 2018 is no different, and over three days they’ll take over sprawling waterside venue Parc del Fòrum to present the the best in contemporary music. Björk is amongst the headliners, and highlights further down the bill include Fever Ray, Sylvan Esso, Chromeo, Abra, Oneohtrix Point Never and Donato Dozzy.
Albania, Wednesday 20th June – Wednesday 27th June
Brand new for 2018, Kala is Albania’s first ever international festival. The location is under-wraps, but we’re told it’s a jewel of undiscovered coastline that’s only accessible by water, a chance to explore the Albanian Riviera where the Adriatic meets the Ionian Sea. Round the clock parties, delicious food, unique venues, Kala is sounding dreamy before we even look at who’s playing. And the line-up does not disappoint; a few of our highlights include Underground Resistance, The Black Madonna, Jayda G and Kasra V.
Croatia, Wednesday 27th June – Wednesday 4th July
Formally the Garden Festival, Love International has quickly established itself as one of the most beloved European festivals. Presenting technicolour dance music in a beautiful Croatian resort, as well as the festival stages there are sunset boat parties and open-air after parties at infamous late night venue Barbarellas. With so many dancers that return year on year, the vibe is unique, welcoming and blissfully friendly. Following the announcement of the second wave of artists, we’re particularly looking forward to Midland, Optimo, Honey Soundsystem, Jane Fitz and Octo Octa.
Dublin, Friday 13th July – Sunday 15th July
A stone’s throw from the centre of Dublin, for 2018 Longitude has transformed into a mecca for fans of hip hop, R&B and grime. Much to the disappointment of many Catfish and the Bottlemen fans but you know what? We are definitely not disappointed. J.Cole, Travis Scott and the wonderful Solange will headline. R&B queen SZA has just been announced too, and further highlights include the GOAT Cardi B, J Hus, Sampha and Princess Nokia. Tickets are – understandably – flying for this one so don’t sleep.
Croatia, Wednesday 29th August – Sunday 2nd September
Smaller sister to Outlook, Dimensions presents cutting edge underground electronic music near the beach in an abandoned fort in Croatia. The festival opens with a breathtaking open-air concert in a 2000 year old amphitheatre. This year’s opening night sees the mighty Kraftwerk presenting their 3-D show with support from Moodymann, Nubya Garcia, Josey Rebelle and Debora Ipekel. Amongst the names on the initial line up across the rest of the festival are: Ben UFO, Nina Kraviz, K-Hand, Sonja Moonear and Umfang.
