Berlin-based producer Ambassadeurs quickly established himself as one-to-watch through a series of EPs; via a steady stream of releases since 2010, he’s showcased a broad sound encompassing ethereal electronica, techno and dark ambient moments.

Real-name Mark Dobson, Ambassadeurs is originally from Brighton and will be returning to the UK next month for a night at The Yard, sharing the bill with Debora Ipekel and Bassala Danza for a night of Turkish psychedelic funk, Afro-beat and electronica.

We had a quick catch-up with him ahead of the show.

Three words to describe my music…

Don’t have one but watched ‘What We Do In The Shadows’ recently and its gotta be up there in top!

The most famous person I’ve met…
Billy Corgan.

The best venue I’ve played…
Probably the Ogden Theatre in Denver. It was a sold out show with Odesza and Hayden James in front of almost two thousand people. The atmosphere was incredible.

The song I can’t listen to…
My own songs for a while after I’ve finished them.

The worst job I’ve ever had…
Chef…It was the worst job and the best job at the same time.

My favourite meal to cook…
I’m learning Sichuan at the moment. I’ve been trying to clone one of my favourite dishes from a restaurant in London so I’ve been cooking that a lot. Almost nailed it!

If I was in a tribute band it would be…
Probably something silly like Yellow Magic Orchestra.

My favourite word…
Sosis…the Turkish word for sausage.

If I had a superpower I’d want it to be…

If I could see anyone play live it would be…
I would have loved to see Hendrix.

Ambassadeurs play The Yard on 5th August.
